U.S. researchers in Wisconsin have found that a high-fat diet helps control seizures in children with epilepsy, Science Daily reported .
The study, published in Epilepsia , was conducted in 43 patients aged between 1 and 15 years. For 4 years, children have been on a diet high in fat and protein and restricted in carbohydrates.
As a result, epileptic seizures were reduced by more than 90% in half of the children. There is also an improvement in brain activity.
Experts warn that this diet should be carried out under strict medical supervision and it is necessary to constantly monitor the metabolism, growth and weight of children.
