About The Postmenopausal Diet - What We Need To Know

Motivation of postmenopausal women before starting a certain diet is also extremely important.

During and after menopause, many changes occur for women. In our desire to maintain a good figure, despite hormonal changes and easier weight gain, we resort to various diets.

However, scientists believe that these measures do not help in the long run and mainly after menopause.

There are many factors that affect the benefits of a diet, especially in the postmenopausal period. The body has undergone changes and it is important to comply with them, experts remind.

After menopause, some hormones are reduced in synthesis, others, such as those responsible for appetite, have increased their levels, there is a lack of energy, metabolism is slow ... These factors contribute to more difficult regulation of normal body weight.

Scientists believe that diets in this period have no effect.

For the purpose of the study, 508 women took part, who were divided into several groups. The first focuses on lifestyle changes after menopause, the second - focuses on health education.

The first group has a program that includes regular consultation with a nutritionist, exercise and sessions with a psychologist. The diet of the participants in this group is based on a higher intake of fruits and vegetables, whole grains and limited fat consumption.

The second group attends seminars organized by health professionals on healthy eating. They do not adhere to a certain diet and exercise.

The results show that women in the first group significantly reduced their body circumference in the first 6 months of the study. They have reduced the consumption of pasta and confectionery, soft drinks, fried foods.

Four years later, they are in the desired physical shape, emphasizing the consumption of fruits and vegetables and less meat and dairy products.

Researchers have found that this regimen is an important predictor of long-term weight loss.

Motivation of postmenopausal women before starting a certain diet is also extremely important.

It is important not to trust diets on the Internet or tried by a relative or friend, due to the peculiarities of each organism, especially after menopause. It is desirable to consult a nutritionist, experts advise.

The study was published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics .
