Coffee Is Useful Against Colon Cancer

In this article, learn more about Coffee Is Useful Against Colon Cancer. The disease develops more favorably in people who regularly drink coffee.

A study shows a link between regular coffee consumption and improved outcomes in patients being treated for colon cancer .

Consumption of several cups of coffee a day is associated with longer life expectancy and lower risk of disease exacerbation in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.

This was announced by the Institute for Research and Treatment of Cancer Dana-Farber Cancer Institute .

Colorectal cancer brings together over 10 diseases commonly known as colon cancer.

The findings show that the favorable development of the disease in patients with advanced colon cancer who drink 4 or more cups of coffee a day is 36% more likely than those who do not drink coffee.

The data are in line with earlier studies showing a link between regular coffee consumption and improved outcomes in patients with non-metastatic colorectal cancer.

The study was published in the medical journal JAMA Oncology .

It involves 1,171 patients treated for metastatic colorectal cancer.

The benefits are observed regardless of whether participants consume caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee.

Researchers point out that at this stage, there can be no causal link between drinking coffee and a reduced risk of cancer progression and death, because the exact cause has not been identified .

Therefore, the results of the study do not give people with colon cancer the reason to start drinking coffee daily or increase its consumption, say researchers.

Several compounds in coffee are known to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and other properties, and can counteract cancer .

However, further research is needed to determine whether there is a causal relationship between coffee consumption and improved outcomes in patients with colorectal cancer and exactly which compounds in coffee are responsible for this.
