As E 162 may contain nitrates, the product is not recommended for children. The coloring elements of red beets are not defined as food additives, but as stand-alone coloring products suitable for use in food.
Betanine (Betanin, Beetroot Red) is a paste, liquid or powder with shades of red ranging from bright red to deep dark red. In water the solution is red, has the taste and smell of dried beets.
E 162 is susceptible to destruction by sunlight, heat and oxygen. It is used for coloring frozen and dried products whose shelf life is not long.
Betanine is used in the coloring of cereals, vegetables cooked in vinegar, brine or oil, with the exception of olives. It is also widely used in confectionery: jellies, jam, etc., in which there are processed fruits. It is also found in sausages, frankfurters, pâtés, cooked sausages and meat, smoked sausages and sausages and much more.
E 162 is also popular among dairy producers. They color yogurt, souffles, creams with it. Contained in semi-finished soups, sauces, chewing gum, ice cream and all kinds of desserts.
In addition to the food industry, betanin is also used in pharmaceuticals for the production of cosmetics. It is approved for use in all countries around the world.
There is no minimum daily dose for use, on average 1-10 mg per kg of product is allowed.
The food coloring E 162 contributes to the absorption and breakdown of plant and animal proteins, participates in the formation of choline in the body, which improves the work of liver cells. Betanine increases the strength of capillaries, prevents vascular spasms, normalizes blood pressure. In addition, it has a beneficial effect on the blood, reduces the risk of heart attack, is characterized by anti-cancer and anti-radiation properties, stops the formation of malignant tumors and is a means of prevention against cancer.
