Eating in a red plate or drinking liquids from red glasses helps to lose weight, according to a study conducted by German and Swiss scientists.
Their use reduces food consumption by 40%, the results show.
The color red is useful against overeating and is effective in reducing excess weight, as it is associated with a sense of danger, attention, prohibition, the researchers said.
According to them, the government and the food industry can use the action of red color and unhealthy foods to be produced with red packaging as a deterrent to their consumption. The greater presence of color in restaurants and bars can have a positive effect on people who abuse alcohol.
The first part of the study involved 41 young men who drank tea from cups marked with red or blue labels. They drink 44% less than glasses with red labels, the researchers found.
The second part of the study involved 109 people, divided into three groups - eating red, blue and white plates. It turns out that the first group consumes the least food.
"Red can be related to an alarm, an alarm, or something primitive," said Ursula Arons of the British Diet Association.
The results are published in the journal Appetite .
