"Sunset" FCF, orange-yellow S are aqueous solutions with a bright orange color. They are used for coloring candies, jams, drinks, packaged soups, oriental spices, sauces and other food products. The chemical formula of the substance is C16H10Na2O7S2N2.
This synthetic dye gives good results in the coloring of products that ferment during heat treatment.
E 110 is used for coloring zucchini, rusks, spices, powdered soups; added to glazes, jams, ice cream, marmalade; it is contained in orange and apricot jellies, in hot chocolate, in marzipan, in soft and refreshing drinks. "Sunset" FCF is often used in combination with the food supplement E 123, to obtain a brown color (chocolate and caramel color).
This substance is a variant of the dangerous colorant Sudan I, which is carcinogenic. For this reason, there may be traces of Sudan I in E 110. In addition, Sunset Yellow FCF or Orange Yellow S, used alone, can cause allergic reactions, especially in people with aspirin intolerance.
Other side effects of the substance: nausea, urticaria (rash), nasal congestion, rhinitis (rhinitis), swelling of the kidneys, chromosomal damage. Often, this dietary supplement is the cause of indigestion, vomiting, abdominal pain, refusal to eat. Do not allow it to get into the food intended for children to avoid hyperactive behavior and distraction.
Colorant E 110 is banned for use in many countries such as Finland, Norway, USA. Today, at the initiative of the EU, substitutes for the substance are being actively sought. In 2008, a law was passed in Europe requiring all products containing E 110 to be marked for possible hyperactivity in children as a result of using the product.
In 2009, the permissible daily dose of the substance per kilogram of body weight was significantly reduced. And in 2010-2011, European countries are planning a total ban on the use of this dye in the food industry.
E 110 causes allergic reactions, nasal congestion, runny nose, nausea, abdominal pain, overactivity.
