How to Peel a Lemon or Orange

The zest is the thin top layer of citrus fruits. It is quite often used in cooking. Most often, the zest of oranges and lemons is used. Less often - other citrus fruits. But not everyone knows how to properly grate the zest.

The zest is used in the preparation of fish, added to pastries, desserts, drinks. She always enhances the taste of the food. When removing it from citrus fruits, some important nuances should be taken into account:

- before removing the zest from a lemon or other fruit, wash them well, and then pour boiling water over them.

- only the upper thin colored part needs to be removed. In no case do not rub the white layer that lies under the colored one - it will add bitterness to the dishes.

- it is better to rub the zest on a fine grater. And if the zest needs to be removed in thin strips, then there is a special knife for this.

Grate the zest quite easily, quickly and simply. The problem is that after rubbing, it is difficult to clean the grater from the remnants of the peel, which is clogged in the grooves of the grater. Thus, we lose some of the product and spend time cleaning the grater. I offer a great way to make the zest of a lemon or other fruit, thanks to which the grater will remain almost clean, and you will get all the zest without loss!
